One of my relatives made close to $1,000 in October painting pumpkins. It is a simple and fun activity the whole family can enjoy.

Visit or call several  pumpkin patches to negotiate your best price on pumpkins. You will want to make several hundred pumpkins. The lower the price you purchase your pumpkins for, the more you can make.

Wash and dry each pumpkin. Use acrylic paints to paint cute faces and designs on each pumpkin. You can purchase stencils at craft supply stores. Or if you prefer you can purchase a kit with premade designs for pumpkin decorating like this one

For design ideas, think of using colors for sports teams, flowers, funny faces and more. Remember the more complicated the design the more you will want to charge.

You can also purchase or use items around the house to add “character” to your pumpkins. Baseball caps, yarn for hair, rhinestones…..let your creativity go wild.

Sell your pumpkins at yard sales, craft fairs, roadside stalls etc. To price your pumpkins factor in the price you paid for the pumpkins and material and add on a fee to cover your labor and time involved.

This is a great activity the whole family will love and you can make some nice extra cash!
