Honestly, I am not sure what to think about Kooday, but since a lot of people are claiming they are making fast and easy money with it, I decided I better check it out for MyLilGoldDress.com, the work at home money site.

Kooday is launching a search engine but a very different kind of search engine.  With Kooday you can buy your own keywords. People can buy them from you or they can pay to link to the word and advertise their site.  Many Kooday members are making bank buying and selling keywords to other members.

To start with Kooday, you need to purchase Kooday dolars. One Kooday dollar equals one U.S. dollar. You need to invest a minimum of five dollars. Kooday uses AlertPay to simplify the process of buying and selling Kooday dollars. You can sign up for an account at AlertPay free  Once deposited you can purchase keywords. The starting price of a keyword is ten cents. So if no one has ever purchased the keyword you can buy it for a dime. When someone buys it from you, they will pay 15% more than what you did, so you earn a profit.

I put $15.00 into Kooday and went through lists of words I thought could turn a profit. To my surprise many of these words were already selling for a chunk of change. “Make Money Online” for example was over $1,000! But as I continued typing in words I came up with quite a few that I could purchase inexpensively.

A word of caution, as I purchased words I went very quickly and ended up with a typo “free steaming movies”. Vince Huff another Kooday member was a sweetie to buy it from me.   So watch your spelling! After purchasing words I promoted them by joining the Facebook group “Kooday Profits”. I was happy to see a few quick sales.

If you buy low and sell high you can quickly build up a bank of words and profits. Another way to make money with Kooday is through links.  Someone may want to have their website link to a word you own. If they purchase a link to a keyword you own you share in the profits.

As you become more involved with Kooday you can reach different levels and higher payouts.

Here are some tips on how to make money with Kooday;

1.  Purchase inexpensive keywords that are popular. You can use the free Google Adwords Keyword Tool to help you determine which words to pick. Or you can use a paid program like Micro Niche Finder.

2.  Advertise your keywords on Kooday forums and social sites such as the Facebook site;  Kooday Profits.

3. Refer friends to Kooday. You get commissions each time they buy keywords or link a Website. The payout is 10% on Kooday keyword purchases and 30% on website links.

4. Network with other Kooday members to gain tips and ideas to increase your profits.

5. Limit your initial investment in Kooday. Keep your initial investment in Kooday small. There are people who claim to have parlayed $5.00 into hundreds even thousands of dollars BUT Kooday is a very new site. The search engine has not launched yet. It does not have a track record.  Play it safe and keep your investment small.

At this point Kooday does not have anything to really back it up. It relies on members buying and selling keywords. The search engine hasn’t launched yet either. So I really don’t see a lot of substance behind Kooday at this time. If you decide to try it out, I would treat it as a side venture not as a sustainable business.

I personally am viewing it as a little diversion from my daily online money making activities. So I am treating it more like entertainment than a money making opportunity. Yes some people say they have made thousands but Kooday is in it’s infancy and does not have a track record.

If you look at the many of the books on Amazon, you will see that sometimes used copies, do not sell for alot of money. Some books are even listed for one cent. People often ask me how a seller can make a profit off a one cent book. The answer is volume. “Penny Sellers” who sell books for a penny or just a few cents have a Pro-Merchant account and sell mass quantities of books. They make bucks selling books on Amazon in the shipping fees. They collect the shipping fee from Amazon which is a little more than what it costs to actually ship and they make a tiny profit off of each book. It is a tough business and only for those who can sell a ton of books.

It’s a lot easier to build a profitable Amazon book business selling fewer books that sell for more. So it’s key that you know what type of books to look for. Time and study will help you hone your instincts You will learn to know when you look at a certain book, if you can sell it for a profit. In addition to getting a general overall feel, I also recommend you develop a niche area to specialize in. I specialize in one niche area and over time have been able to locate many of the same titles and sell them over and over for hundreds of dollars because I know exactly what to look for. I have pre-ordered these books at used book sites such as Half.com and if they came available, at the price I list, I am automatically sent the book. Just this past week, I was sent a book, I had pre-ordered giving a top price of $30. The seller asked $12 for it and I will be able to resell it for close to $200.

In general when you purchase books for resale, look for quality non-fiction books. Avoid fiction, diet books, cookbooks and book of the month club books. Run from anything that has an odor to it, is soiled and damaged or a former library book. There are always exceptions, I sold a very unique book on magic for close to a hundred dollars that was a former library book. As a rule of thumb, you want to find something unique that someone is looking for. The latest fiction book has already been discounted in new condition by Amazon and there are probably dozens of copies flooding the market, so stay away from that.

Build your book business with a small inventory of books. When you start out and don’t know what you are looking at, keep the prices you pay low. There are tons of sources for books including friends who will give you their books, rummages sales, thrift stores, yard sales and when you know what you are looking for, you can buy and resell off the internet. I have also purchased brand new books at outlet stores and resold them for a hefty profit.

The next step is pricing your books. If you see that a ton of people have the same book listed on Amazon. Go with the lowest price you can and get rid of it. On the other hand, if there are few listings and a strong desire (look at the Amazon sales rank), you can put a heftier price tag on the book. If no one is buying, price your copy low so its the first one that sells.

Packaging books is key to if you will make a profit or not. I use newspaper end rolls (free from my newspaper) to wrap my books for protection. I buy bubble mailers in bulk from eBay. This is crucial. A bubble mailer can cost $$$ at a regular retail store but be very cheap when purchased in bulk. If the buyer ordered expedited shipping, keep in mind that many books can easily slip into a flat rate priority mail envelope. This is usually much cheaper than sending it in a regular mailer, expedited shipping. And priority mail envelopes are free at USPS.com. The less your shipping costs, the greater your profits.

With each book you send, include a little thank you and your email for the customer to contact you about future books. If you have built a niche site, this is an excellent way to build your business and make bucks selling on Amazon. If a customer orders a book in a certain genre, and you have others in that genre, mention them in your email when you acknowledge their Amazon order. Recently a customer ordered a book on France for $30 and ended up ordering several more books after I mentioned some others I had on France.

You can make a tidy profit selling books on Amazon, get started by selling a few books you own, but no longer want, today!

If you’re looking for a business to start from home, working as a transcriptionist is an option that doesn’t require much in terms of office space, equipment or start up costs. A transcriptionist is an individual who types verbatim (word-for-word) something that’s been recorded on either a micro-cassette or digitally.

Special transcription software and equipment helps the transcriptionist listen to the recorded material for tape players and digital files. Both generally use a foot-pedal that attaches to the transcriber or the computer and it allows the transcriptionist to start, stop, go back, and slow down the recorded material to keep their hands free for typing. Most transcriptionists also utilize a highly sensitive headset so that the recording is clearer to hear and understand.

As a transcriptionist, you should have a keen sense of hearing and sight, excellent grammar and fast typing skills. You should also be able to work well under tight deadlines, be able to work by independently for most of the time and handle the repetition of typing, which can be a strain on the hands and wrists and the back from sitting for long periods of time. A sharp eye for detail is also essential to this job.

Transcription is in high demand in the US and according to the Department of Labor statistics, transcriptionist jobs are growing at a higher than average rate. Being a transcriptionist is a career that is easily managed in a work from home setting, which makes it a very attractive opportunity.

A website is a great way to share your knowledge and make extra income. You can blog about a topic and make extra income with affiliate marketing and companies that pay you per click such as Google Adsense. Though you can get free hosting at sites such as freewebs and by using free blogging sites, you are better off building your own site which you have control over.

Here is how to get started:

1. Decide what you want to write about. What is your passion? Do a little research on the net and see if others are also interested in the topic. You want to pick a profitable topic. Keep the topic broad enough so you have plenty to write about, but not so broad that it lacks a focus.

In addition to your niche topic you can write a general blog or you may want to write a specific type of blog. For example if you are writing about blog, you could write a general blog or you can narrow your focus to writing reviews on the different cameras on the market. 2.  Once you have decided on your niche,  it is time to pick a domain name for your website. Here are some tips when selecting a domain name.
~ Make it short.
~ Make it easy to spell and remember.
~ Make it about what you are writing about.
~ Make it a .com if possible.
One of the hardest parts about picking a name is so many are already taken! Find out by going to GoDaddy or another site and checking if the name you want is available.  If the name you selected is already in use, GoDaddy will make other suggestions. GoDaddy offers excellent pricing on Domain Names and Hosting. I have close to 30 names registered with GoDaddy. I have called them several times and their customer service is excellent.

NOTE: I switched to NAMECHEAP .    GoDaddy renewals were much more expensive.

3. Sign up for hosting with BlueHost or Hostgator. You can host websites with BlueHost and Hostgator for one low price and they offer auto-installation of WordPress also. Whatever, hosting company you use, make sure they have automatic installation of WordPress. Both of these companies offer great service. 4. In the manage domains section at GoDaddy or Namecheap, point your webhost servers to the BlueHost or Hostgator servers. This is simple to do, but if you have trouble contact either GoDaddy, Namecheap, BlueHost, or Hostgator to walk you through the steps. 5. At your hosting site install WordPress through your Cpanel.  Ask your provider to walk you through this step. It will be slightly different at Hostgator than at BlueHost.

7. WordPress offers two default themes. You can also go to the WordPress site and select a different theme. There are many very nice free WordPress themes on the market. However, it is very easy to get a virus while searching for them. And many themes include spyware. If you opt to change your theme, you are best using a new theme from a reputable site.

TIP: One way to find a great WP theme is to type in the style or color of WP theme you want at Google and then look through Google images. You will instantly see many WP themes and it is easier than scrolling though dozens of images.
